As more Americans reach their later years, changing demographics are touching all generations.
Older adults will soon outnumber children for the first time in our history, and across the nation,
the face of America is growing older. Though some see this as a challenge, I consider it an
opportunity to develop innovative ideas to help meet the needs of today’s seniors - and tomorrow’s
as well. Our committee seeks improve seniors’ lives and to reshape the way Americans think about
retirement, health care and consumer needs. As the baby boom generation ages, we must continue our
efforts to provide critical services, protections and opportunities for all older Americans.
My role as chairman of the Senate Special Committee on Aging provides me with a wonderful opportunity
to work for a better quality of life for older Americans across the country. I welcome the challenge.
