The Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. This program is for students who are interested in pursuing a challenging and rewarding career in analytical biomedicine. The curriculum for MLS majors provides students with a sound background knowledge in the biological and physical sciences and a quality education in specialized science theory and laboratory skills. In addition, the curriculum offers students an opportunity to become more knowledgeable in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Students entering the MLS program can pursue a B.S. degree in one of two tracks: clinical or research.

PROFESSION

Medical laboratory science plays an essential part in modern health care. Working closely with other health professionals, medical laboratory scientists perform analyses on body fluids, interpret and evaluate data, and provide information to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of disease.

The field is growing, as advances are made in areas such as molecular diagnostics and forensic medicine, and new concerns about bioterrorism, have increased the demand for skilled laboratorians.

UNH graduates are working as technologists, researchers, and in various other positions in the biomedical industry. Many of our graduates assume administrative and managerial positions within healthcare organizations.
