All MLS students are strongly urged to receive a completed series of HBV immunizations. Generally, this should be done at the beginning of the sophomore year, before enrolling for Phlebotomy Theory in the spring, or before enrolling in any MLS course that may involve the use of blood or body fluids in the lab. The student must pay for vaccinations which can be obtained at cost from Student Health Services at UNH. The cost is approximately $55.00 per immunization and three are required. There is also a serum titer required after completion of the immunization which costs approximately $40.00. Please check with your current health provider to see if coverage of HBV immunization is provided.
If students do not wish to receive the immunization, they must sign a waiver form and return all forms to Medical Laboratory Science program secretary. If students decide to have the vaccinations, they must have the provider fill out the HBV form (a copy is attached here) and return it to the program secretary. These forms will be kept on file within the Department.
Students should be aware that some clinical internships sites may also require proof of measles, mumps and rubella vaccination, and a recent TB skin test.
